The Loves Park Police Department consists of 37 sworn officers and four civilian staff members. Current authorized staffing includes: a Chief of Police, 2 Deputy Chiefs, 4 Patrol Sergeants, 1 Detective Sergeant, 3 Detectives, 1 Narcotics Investigator, 1 Violent Crimes Task Force Investigator, 2 Patrol K-9 Officers, 1 School Resource Officer, 22 Patrol Officers, 3 Office Staff Members, and 1 CrimeStoppers Coordinator. In 2019, Loves Park Police handled 27,603 calls for service.
 
NOTICE OF EXAMINATION FOR THE POSITION OF
LATERAL POLICE OFFICER POSITIONS IN THE CITY OF LOVES PARK
Pursuant to the Provisions of the IL Revised Statutes, Chapter 24, Section 10-2-11, notice is hereby given that the Loves Park Civil Service Commission is taking applications for a lateral entry Police Officer position for the Police Department in the City of Loves Park, IL. Applications for lateral entry Police Officer positions are being accepted on an ongoing basis. Starting salary: $63,122 to $68,731 depending on years of experience. Applicants must be police certified (subject to final approval and waiver by Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board) with at least two (2) and no more than five (5) years of experience as a full-time sworn, certified law enforcement officer at the time of application and must be employed as a law enforcement officer at the time of application. Applicants will be pre-screened by the Department which may consist of an oral interview and/or other assessment of skills, experience, etc.  Selected applicants will then participate in an oral interview with the Commission. Successful applicants will be subject to a thorough character and background investigation and post-offer medical examination and drug screening.
